AR Exploration.

XR should excite me, but it didn't.
It's been a slow uptake and I questioned the longevity of these experiences.
But we all do own a smartphone.

I had to opportunity to understand and develop concepts within the XR space.

No client. No established brief. Just insights and creativity needed.

TLDR: It now excites me.

Understanding.

I spent time understanding XR (cross reality) spaces; spacial computing, multimodal interactions as well as learnings from existing BBC XR projects. Here are a collection of my thoughts.

Spatial computing is fascinating. What are the limitations?

03

XR seems impractical in our current behaviours. How are we adapting?

04

What is the social impact?

05

Can audiences engage multiple times without losing interest?

How do we on-board users to a new experience?

Insights.

Working in News, I had valuable user needs. From my time working with the XR team, I had XR opportunities.

Combining these would help us ideate on concepts.

Users are able to scan other news providers and headlines and discover what BBC News says on the story.

Website, Newspaper or Advert, users can use their phones to augment un-bias news from the BBC.

02 Perspectives.

Bringing their community into focus, users can drop their perspective on the map for others to discover.

Not comments - but their experiences.

Users will be able to discover local news events along with the experiences of local people via a notification when they're near a perspectives 'spot'.

Blender me up.

It was time to get dirty. Always great to learn new tools, and Blender was no different. Here's a few screen grabs on some quick playtime.

NewsLens.

Working in Reality Composer within XCode, I produced a few prototypes.

Daily Mail is just an example. 👀

After building a custom 'beacon' for 'Perspectives' in Blender, it wasn't happening.
